2007 Parés Baltà Blanc De Pacs

Do you enjoy Cava, that delicious sparkling wine from Spain? Many Cavas are a blend of three indigenous Spanish grapes: Paralleda, Macabeo and Xarel.lo. Yet still wines are also sometimes made with these grapes, and even this specific blend.

The 2007 Parés Baltà Blanc De Pacs ($10.99) is a blend of 42% Paralleda, 33% Xarel.lo and 25% Macabeo and Xarel.lo. When I visited Spain, I toured the Parés Baltà winery and you check my previous post for more information about the winery. This wine sees no oak and only has an alcohol content of 11.5%.

The wine had a rich golden color with appealing aromas of citrus, melon and apple, with subtle floral notes. On the palate, the fruit flavors of citrus and apple mingled with spicy notes, almost reminding me a bit of a Gewurtztraminer. The overall taste seemed a bit more exotic than many other whites. It was crisp and lively with a moderately long finish. For the price, this is a very good value, a wine with character and a more exotic flavor. It would be a nice pairing with seafood.

Addendum: For another opinion on this wine, check out Jennifer's post at Palate-To-Pen.
